Downtown Madison fire blazed last Sunday

A public notification was issued this past Sunday on February 19th at 5:22 p.m. to the citizens of Madison New Jersey. A third floors fire in a residential apartment at 49 Main Street quickly escalated to a three alarm fire. The two first floor commercial businesses and two floors of residential apartments are uninhabitable until structural repairs can be made to the building. On of the two businesses is the popular breakfast spot Bagel Chateau.

The Madison Fire Department responded to the fire along with aid from the Florham Park, Chatham, Morris Township and Cedar Knolls, Morristown, Vernon, Chatham Township, Morris Plains, Whippany, Green Village, East Hanover and Summit Fire Departments.

Donations are being collected on behalf of the families affected by the fire by Sarah Mazak, a guidance counselor at MHS. Mazak is asking for monetary donations, in the form of cash, a check made out to cash, or gift cards to local stores like Stop and Shop. All donations can be given to Ms. Mazak preferably by March 25th, but she says that she will accept donations beyond that deadline.

MDO extends sympathy to the businesses and families affected by the fire.
