The Masters 2016
The 2016 Masters was held on April 7th at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. Danny Willett won the tournament, leading the field with a final-round 5- under 67 to finish 5 under overall and snatch the victory from Jordan Spieth, who was in the lead on the first 65 holes.
Spieth attempted to regain his championship status after the 7 at hole twelve, but then missed a birdie putt at 16. He lost by three strokes with a final round 1- over 73. Willett, who is the number 12 golfer in the world, gets his first major victory and the green jacket that was placed on his shoulders by the man he beat. Willett plays mostly on the European Tour, and his last win was at the Dubai Desert Classic and has four career wins on the European Tour.
The English golfers performed well at this year’s Masters, Lee Westwood tied with Spieth at under two, Paul Casey ended T-4, and Matt Fitzpatrick shot a final-round 67 to finish T-7.
The playing partner of Spieth, Smylie Kaufman, did not perform well this year. In his final round ended with a 9-over 81 to end up T-29. 58 year old Bernhard Langer ended early on Sunday with a 7-over 79. J.B. Holmes finished with a T-4 after a 4-under 68, Dustin Johnson finished T-4, and Soren Kjeldson and Hideki Matsuyama finished T-7 at even par.
