Peyton Manning Retires
On Sunday, March 6th, Peyton Manning, the quarterback for the Denver Broncos, decided to retire from the National Football League. After 18 years of playing for the Broncos, Manning shared the news with his fans through twitter and the team’s official website. John Elway, who is currently the manager for the team told Manning that there was no deadline for him to make a final decision regarding his retirement. Luckily for Manning, retirement wouldn’t leave him empty handed. From years of being a loved and well known football player, Manning had made about $12.5 million from endorsements in 2014 alone.
Although Manning was a great quarterback, holding the record for the most career touchdown passes (539), he also made a huge impact on people off of the field. Peyton and his brother Eli, quarterback for the New York Giants, participated in many charities and took part in multiple volunteer opportunities such as helping the Red Cross deliver supplies to Victims of Hurricane Katrina. Manning also had his own charity called the Peyback Foundation which raised over $10 million for kids at-risk. This football player left such an impact that St. Vincent Hospital, located in Indianapolis, changed it’s name to the Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital.
Just because Peyton Manning retired, doesn’t mean he won’t be back for future games and events that the Broncos participate in. Hopefully the new quarterback Brock Osweiler will show promise and lead the team to victory again.
