On Monday, an “electronic threat” via email was sent to Los Angeles schools that prompted the decision to close all Los Angeles schools, keeping about 650,000 students safe at home.

According to district superintendent Ramon Cortines, the electronic threat explained bomb threats having to do with backpacks and “other packages”. “I made a decision to close all of the schools. It is important to take the precaution based on what has happened recently and what has happened in the past” the superintended expressed in a live press conference for CNN. He further explained, “I am not going to take the chance with a life of a student”. The students of Los Angeles schools had to be picked up and were only let go if their guardian had valid ID.

The email has father been traced to an IP address in Frankfurt Germany. It was found that the email was sent to Los Angeles, New York City, and other possible cities, but Los Angeles schools were the only ones closed.

The email made many authorities raise their eyebrows when the word “allah” was mentioned. Is this is a possible international terrorist threat? An interesting point found by the New York police was that the world “allah” is not spelled with a capital “A”, like the email had mentioned it. This made some believe the email was a hoax, leaving many students still in school today.

According to a credible source, private schools in the Los Angeles area remained open.

Due to the recent terrorist attacks in San Bernardino on December 2^nd leaving 14 dead and 21 others injured, and the Paris attacks on November 13^th leaving 130 dead and hundreds of others left traumatized and injured, closing schools seems like the only plausible decision, and MDO applauds Romon Cortines’ decision to keeping the children safe first.
