Star Wars Episode VII

The new Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens trailer premiered on October 19 during halftime of the Eagles v. Giants game. The new trailer, which premiered right after the release of the movie’s official poster, has sparked a lot debate, mostly about one thing; where’s Luke Skywalker? The trailer showcases all the new characters, including a very touching second long scene between Han and Leia, both new main characters, Rey and Finn, and of course a plethora of new clone troopers. There were two characters however, who were suspiciously absent from the trailer: Luke Skywalker and C-3PO. People are most concerned with the lack of Luke, especially since Leia and Han both have already been given screen time in the trailer. However, Mark Hamill was put on a strict workout regime along with Carrie Fisher for their upcoming stunts back in 2013, which suggests that Luke will in fact have a pivotal role in the film. It is also speculated that the man who touches R2-D2 with a robot hand is in fact Luke. If so, why all the secrecy? Why can’t we see his face?

The trailer also included a lot of new details have fans both excited and anxious. This includes Captain Phasma, the first female clone, and of course the appearance of both Han and Leia. What has fans the most worried is the scene in the trailer where Han is seen hugging a distressed looking Leia. Han is also seen in the trailer the most out of all the original Star Wars characters. Other new details include the all new Death Star, which is run by a Darth Vader obsessed Sith named Kylo Ren. Ren seems to have an unhealthy obsession with Vader, and appears to share his passion for blowing up planets as well.

Wherever Luke is, the new Star Wars movie is already the highest anticipated movie of the year, even crashing ticket sites as soon as the tickets went on sale on the 19th. The trailer, of course, does leave fans with more questions than they started with; where’s C-3PO, who is Kylo Ren, what happened to Leia, and of course, most importantly, where is Luke Skywalker?
