Glyphs Coffeehouse is Back!

The first Glyphs coffeehouse of the school year was a smashing success this past Friday, October 23. About 50 people were in attendance and about 15 musical performances and poetry readings were presented onstage in the Chase Room. Among the performers were Andy Jung, who just got back from Korea, Michael Bennett, haiku extraordinaire, and a fraction of the MHS Jazz Chorus, “Mad Jazz”.

“The Glyphs coffeehouse was a great way to spend a Friday night. It’s nice to get to hang out with your friends, watch your classmates perform, eat food, and maybe even perform yourself” says Lauren Ebert, a junior and a member of Glyphs. “The atmosphere was really welcoming so there’s no need to be nervous if you have never attended a Glyphs coffeehouse before. I had such a great time and I would definitely recommend that others who have not yet attended check it out in the future.”

That is the universal opinion of the Glyphs coffeehouse. Kristin McManus, a sophomore and also a member of Glyphs, says, “It was a really good end to the week because I could hang out with my friends and watch performances from my classmates.”

There are more coffeehouses coming up this year and there are Glyphs meetings every week, so keep a lookout for announcements about future events. On the calendar now is Glyphs’ Short Story contest. The due date for the contest is November 30th. To submit to both the contest and the Glyphs magazine, email your work to [email protected].
