Creator of the hit Broadway musical Hamilton, Lin Manuel Miranda is attempting to bring theatre and history to high school students from New York City. So far, 20,000 students have witnessed this hip-hop musical as part of this educational program. Miranda has penned this educational program #EduHam.

This program invites students to join the cast of Hamilton at the Richard Rodgers theatre for a day of learning and performing. The students see the show, speak with the cast, and perform their own pieces for a minimal cost of $10. This is possible through the help of the Rockefeller Foundation, the New York City Department of Education, and the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History.

The students spend months in preparation for the special day where they get to see the famed Hamilton and perform for the cast. They learn about Hamilton, his life, and the Revolutionary period of our history while incorporating the musical into this curriculum.

Lin Manuel Miranda, writer and star of his musical Hamilton, is inspired by the students that he gets to see and meet through his EduHam program. He believes that Hamilton is important because it connects music and art, easily obtainable for some, with American history, something that may be previously credited as boring. The EduHam program introduces American history to high school students through hip hop music that is the hit musical.

The hit Broadway musical Hamilton is up for 16 Tony Awards for this 2016 season. The Tony Awards Ceremony is being held this year on June 12th. Good luck to the Hamilton cast and creative and kudos to them for all their successes!
