The boys lacrosse team started their season off very strong. With a 15-2 win against Morristown, and with a first win against Mountain Lakes in 9 years, they were able to secure a win 13-12. The Dodgers went into half with a 5-3 lead and were able to finish the game with a 1 point victory. With a 2-0 start off to the season the Dodgers are looking strong to start off the season, and are looking like they could be fierce competitors to their opponents.
The Dodgers started off their season on 3/21 against Morristown. From the start of the game, the Dodgers were not letting up. Controlling the ball on offense and defense allowed them to win the game early on. With Finn Dwyer scoring 6 goals for them, and Matt Lutz 3 assists, the Dodgers’ talents travel through all points of the field and that was shown in the game against Morristown.
Although the Dodgers were happy with this win, the Mountain Lakes game is what they were really preparing for. With the Lakers being ranked 16th in the state, the Dodgers came in looking to secure a win for the first time in a long time. Matt Lutz, was able to help the Dodgers with 4 goals. The Goals aren’t the only thing that led the team to victory. Aiden Maining was able to come out of the game with 10 saves, Cal Regan controlled the back line and was able to stop Mountain lakes heavy offense. Colin Byam led the team with 12 ground balls, and taking the face offs was able to win 10 of them.
Achieving this win is very important to the team, especially after losing 7 seniors the underclassmen knew they had to step up. Utah commit Matt Lutz started the season well with leading the team to the Mountain Lakes Victory.
Although it was a close scoring game Madison was able to prove their composure when the pressure was being shown. Every possession was not taken slightly by the Dodgers, every play, every shot, and every save mattered. Strong defensive measures and stops made in crucial times, allowed for the offensive to step up and make the shots when it was needed. The energy on the field and sidelined was seen by everyone and the Dodgers made sure that Mountain Lakes saw their energy from the start of the game.
What sealed the win against both Morristown and Mountain lakes was the balance on the team. The Dodgers excel both at offense and defense. On the defensive side Cal Regan, and Brody Witz are both committed. And on the offensive side Matt Lutz, Colin Byam, Justin Goldberg, Jacob Deutsch, Grady Soeder, and Connor Mineo. Having strong players on both sides of the field allows for the Dodgers to excel throughout the whole game.
The Dodgers next game is 3/28 against Glen Rock, the Dodgers hope to keep their winning streak alive and keep the season strong.
