After coming off a 7-12 2025 season, the Madison Boys lacrosse team looks to find even more success on the field with a strong group of returning players. Their season started off on March 21st with an impressive 15-2 win versus Morristown. The boys also pulled off an extraordinary win versus Mountainlakes in their second game of the season; It was the first time they defeated them in nine years! The team plans to channel the same triumph as the season continues.
Captains Colin Byam, Matt Lutz, and Cal Regan have returned for their senior season with intensity. Each of the captains are committed to continue their lacrosse career in college, and have been working hard in the off season to prepare for this spring. Colin Byum plans to play at Connecticut College, Matt Lutz plans to play at University of Utah, and Cal plans to play at Drexel University. Other key players on the team include juniors Finn Dwyer, Brody Witz, Jacob Deutsch, Justin Goldberg, Jake Rodin, and Connor Mineo.
With many returning starters, the team has already shown strong chemistry early on, especially on the offensive end. Ball movement and communication have stood out as major strengths through the first few games. Senior Matt Lutz is a key attacker who has created outstanding success for the Dodgers. Juniors Justin Goldberg, Finn Dwyer, and Jacob Deutsch also look to make a mark on offense.
Defensively, the team has also shown major improvement compared to last season. Communication of the field and quick transitions have helped limit opponents’ scoring opportunities. Senior Cal Regan and Junior Brody Witz work together to create an aggressive defense in the back.
Another factor contributing to the team’s promising start is their off season preparation. Many players participate in club lacrosse and training programs which has allowed them to develop their skills in the off season. These extra reps contribute a lot to the success of the team.
Looking ahead, Madison faces a competitive schedule filled with tough conference matchups. Some key games to look forward to this April include Glen Ridge on the 16th and St Peter’s Prep on the 23rd. To see the full schedule with more details click HERE.
