Going into her 7th year as the head coach of the Dodgers Girls Basketball team, Lisa DiTuro hopes to expand on the 3 sectional titles that the Dodgers have won over the past four years. DiTuro is currently the AP English Language and Composition, Broadcast Journalism, and Sports in Literature teacher, but basketball has always been another passion of hers.
DiTuro says that her “ youngest memories are still of going to my brother’s basketball practices as a little kid”. This love of basketball has followed her for her whole life and led her to continue her career at Smith College. She played basketball at Smith College for her first 2 years of college and then transferred to Villanova where she played on the school’s women’s club team.
DiTuro also started her coaching career at this time, coaching little kids basketball as a way to give back to her favorite game. After college was the Varsity coach of Ballston Spa High School, and then moved to the college level as the assistant coach at Bloomfield College.
After Bloomfield, DiTuro coached at Milburn High School, before she got the position of head Coach of the Madison High School Girls Basketball team for the 2019-2020. This season had some unexpected shifts with the outbreak of Covid-19 and the national shutdown. But, DiTuro still credits this team for being the reason that she wanted to continue coaching at Madison and hopefully start working as an English teacher at the school too.
Now, going into her 7th year as the Dodgers head coach, she is hoping to secure a 4 sectional title for herself and the school. When asked about how the team was preparing to accomplish this goal, DiTuro emphasized that the team is already in good shape but extra conditioning can never hurt. She also explained that all this conditioning will also really prepare the team for how their season will go because the team is very small and they will need the endurance to last the whole game.
DiTuro is also very focused on the team’s defense as she says that a good game is won on the defense. It is clear that this has been a trademark of DiTuro’s coaching for her past years at Madison and is what she believes is the most important part of the game. Their first game is on December 18, 2025 against St. Elizabeth at 4:00 PM at the Academy of St. Elizabeth and is sure to be a great game.
