MADISON — With the new month here, the Madison Girls Hockey season is approaching quickly. The team plays their first game of the season this Sunday, 12/7. They will battle head to head against Trinity Hall.
On Wednesday Scarlet Baisch, Calista Farrell, and Athena Halewicz represented the team for Dodger Media Week. When asked how the team is getting prepared for their first game Scarlett said that the team is “getting on the ice” she also said that the team “didn’t do dryland this year”.
Athena later gave some insight on what a typical practice may look like for this team saying that “Normally we just start with skating around the ice to begin”. Throughout the duration of the panel, ice time was a recurring topic.
The girls said that they will sometimes share ice time with the boys, helping to fix the ongoing lack of time for the girls to practice.
The girls will play their first game of the season on Sunday at Mennan Arena, as they face off against Trinity Hall. Last year, Trinity Hall came in second place in the Cohen division; while Madison came in first place in the Annis division.
While last year’s stats don’t play any role in the game; it still may give some insight to what we may see on Sunday’s game.
When asked what needs to be done to make sure the team can play to the best of their ability, Baisch said that “we need to work on practicing with our lines more [] usually we’re only doing shooting or working defensively.”
Athena also shared how she thinks the team can improve saying that “working as a team during practices.” Halewicz said this is because “so far we’ve mostly been getting into the fundamentals for the slightly newer girls.”
The Madison Girls Hockey team is ready to keep their momentum going from last season, and chase another top spot in their division. Follow along with the Girls Hockey team and more, on Dodger Media.
