The fastest boy in New Jersey isn’t slowing down this winter. As the Madison winter track team gears up for a successful season, one senior in particular is in the spotlight. Rohan Tucker, coming off a very victorious end to his spring season, looks to get back to where he was last season and accomplish more.
Last spring, as a Junior, Tucker took home the gold medal in the meet of Champions Boys 200 in Pennsauken. He ran it in 21.18 seconds making him the fastest boy in NJ.
This winter, Tucker seeks more success. When asked about what he is going to do to ensure this he said wants intense training and takes it more seriously. “I didn’t take winter track seriously last year, but this year it’s going to be different,” Tucker said in an interview.
A typical practice for Rohan includes a lot of stretching to keep muscles loose, and lots of moving around to keep the body warm. He also explained that throughout the season, the team runs consistently at practice, following workouts laid out by the coach.
During winter track, Tucker focuses on the 55, and the 400 meter dash. He also occasionally does the 200, 300 and triple jump. He said that these shorter distances such as the 55, help him with his start for spring track. Winter track also prepares him for spring track by getting his legs running and getting used to intense workouts after two season breaks. Although he started winter track later in his high school career, alongside being preparation for the spring, Winter Track is an important season for Rohan.
Rohan’s determination to commit to running in college is a motivator to him during the winter track season. He mentioned that his goal is to run division 1, and that achieving that would require him to get faster times. He says he needs to “step it up to another level.”
It is correct to assume that big things are coming from Rohan this winter track season. Press here to stay tuned in throughout the season and see how Rohan is competing.
