As the upcoming wrestling season approaches, the Dodgers are gearing up to have a strong season. With returning senior boys Michael Sirna and Karl Maurer, senior girl Brywn Hines, junior boys David DeFillipis and Josh Ortiz, and as well as junior girl Marianna Zegal the team is looking stronger than ever.
After months of lifting, drilling, and offseason, the Dodgers are ready to rumble as they open up their season with Boonton on the road.
The several returning seniors wrestlers know what it takes to win. We had the chance to interview senior Michael Sirna. When asked what personal goals he has for his season, Sirna confidently responds saying “I want to leave everything I have left out on the mat”.
Each and everyone of them have been through tough practices, long bus rides, and intense matches, so giving 110% everyday for this season is a must.
Coaches have said great things about these talented upperclassmen as they really have pushed the pace in practice and are helping the younger classmen with technique.
Even though the Dodgers have a lot of strong leadership, a big part of the excitement for this season comes from the underclassmen. Defillipis and Zegal have been 2 major parts to this Dodger Wrestling Team. Also, sophomore, PJ Finkleday, has recently just fully recovered from his ACL reconstruction and is looking to carry a big load as well.
So far, practices have been all about getting conditioned, fundamentals, and getting mentally tough. Their coaches have really stressed staying disciplined, and keeping their good habits. The Dodgers said they have really created a strong bond over the years and have drastically gotten stronger all together.
Overall, the Madison Dodgers Wrestling team looks ready to take a huge step forward this year. With strong leadership from the upperclassmen, a talented group of younger classmen, good coaching, and unteachable work ethic, the team has everything they need to make this season a memorable one. If the Dodgers keep improving each week, they have a real good chance to shock other schools and make a deep state run.
