On Tuesday December 9th the Madison Boys Swim had their debut meet against Parsippany. In the 2024-2025 season the boys went 6-2 in the regular season and made it to the quarterfinal round of the North 2, group C Tournament.
When asked about how he feels about the 2024-2025 season and what he wants the team to achieve this year head coach Jeff Covielo had this to say “I think we did well last year, but we also had a turnover, so the seniors that we lost are gonna be replaced by a really strong group of freshmen. So our goal as a program that is growing is to be better next year than the year before, so our goal is to continue our success in the regular season, but then try to advance further in the state playoffs.”
The seniors that Coach Coviello was referring to were Anuthra Abeysinghe and Jacques Chemaly. Abeysinghe’s best events were the 100m breaststroke with his personal record(PR) being 1:01.13 and the 200m Individual Medley with his PR being 2:03.22. Chemley’s best events were 100m backstroke with his PR being 57.33, and the 500m free style with his PR being 5:07.49.
The swimmers that will be leading the team this year are Kaden Chou and
Spencer Rosenbaum. Chou’s best events are the 100m and 50m free style, his PR’s are 52.46 and 23.63 respectively. Rosenbaum swims all events, and this season he is looking to break the school record for the 50m freestyle with his PR being 23.57 which is 0.51 seconds off of the 22.96 record set by Zachary Ruiz in the 2018-2019 season.
The team also has a promising future with Coach Coviello pointing out: Will Dyer, Jack Gehlmeyer, and Derek Knoll as freshmen that show a lot of potential.
