The Key’s to Dodger Softball’s Success
Spring sports have officially kicked off and the Madison Dodger Girl’s Softball team has high hopes. This year, the Dodgers have lots of senior support behind captains Sophia DeCaro, Sarah Stumiller, Gwen Tuhy , and Sasha Knoll.
The Dodgers come off an extremely strong season in which they achieved a 17-7 overall record. The Dodgers ultimately fell short of the sectional final in a heartbreaking 4-2 loss to Bernardsville. The Dodgers will be led on the mound by two sport star Charlotte Tuhy. Madison’s flame thrower led the Dodgers with 96 strikeouts as only a freshman. Expect huge things out of her in her sophomore year. Charlotte’s sister Gwen, was another key part of the Dodgers’ success last year, as she led the team in runs scored with twenty-nine.
Ironically, this isn’t the only pair of sisters that will be leading the Dodgers this year. As only a freshman, Elena DeCaro led the team with four home runs and twenty seven RBI’s. Her sister, Sophia, is a senior on this year’s squad and an experienced varsity player at that. Sophia was dominant last year with a .492 batting average and thirty-one hits.
Although expectations are high, the Dodgers are off to a rocky 1-2 start, but look to get right back on track with upcoming games against Whippany Park and Jefferson. They’ve shown flashes of what they can do as they showed off plenty of offensive firepower against Pequannock in a fourteen run showing to capture their first win of the new season. There two losses came to perennial powerhouses, Morris Catholic, who is favored to win the division, and Hanover Park. This won’t be the last you’ll be hearing about Dodger softball. Expect them to get rolling and start making lots of noise as the year goes on.
