Ending in mid-November, the Madison High School Volleyball Team season came to a close at the Group 2 Sectional Finals. Their captains Sydney Bruns and Katelyn Williams lead them to an impressive 19-4 record in the regular season and an overall record of 22-5. They were the NJAC Liberty Division Champions and won various tournaments such as the Millburn Tournament.

With an impressive win over South Plainfield on October 25th, the team celebrated senior night. Their senior roster consists of Katelyn Williams, Bruns Cornehl Lima, Isabela Cadavid, Jessenia Gomez, Ellie Apelian, Amanda Fillipone, and Sydney Bruns. One of their most well-earned wins was in the State Sectional Semifinals. The Madison Dodgers came in as the fourth seed and were against the first seed, West Morris. Their main coach, Coach Fenton, the JV coach, Coach Ferris, and the freshman coach, Coach Moutafis, all attended the game to motivate and re-center the team. Although it was back and forth the entire game, through clear and effective communication along with superb teamwork, our amazing volleyball team was able to take down West Morris and move on to the finals on 11/8.

One of the team captains, Sydney Bruns, has expressed great pride towards the efforts of the team and their wins over this entire season. She explained that, although she was one of the captains and therefore had to act as a leader, every single member on the team was a leader in their own right. Giving motivational speeches in team huddles, cultivating team spirit, and generally just staying positive, every Dodger volleyball player contributed in their own way to earn every win this season. For Sydney personally, her season was covered in new personal records and is sad to leave the team behind. However, she’s excited for what’s to come of the team and believes it will be stronger than ever in the next coming years. 

Through writing this article, learning more about our volleyball team, and speaking with one of the captains, I have a newfound admiration towards not only the volleyball team but also the entire athletics staff of Madison High School. Congratulations on such a great season Madison Volleyball! You should be proud of all you’ve done, and I know the results have shown the amount of dedication and hard work you guys have put into this team and the sport as a whole. Go Dodgers!
