Girls Soccer Midseason

We’ve finally reached midseason for our fall sports, and so far we’ve seen remarkable results coming from Girls Soccer this year: a record of seven wins and only one loss! In their last game, against Morris Catholic, the team put up a good fight, but unfortunately let up one goal in the last moments of the game. The girls have been showing great strength and hard work, and, hopefully, will continue to show this trend going forward. With many cancellations due to the rain, the team hasn’t had many opportunities to advance their record, but they are prepared to move to the next step: the County Tournament.

On October 12, the girls faced their first opponent in the County Tournament at 4:00 pm. Seeding fifth of twenty-seven, they were able to secure a bye for the first round, but tomorrow they play Roxbury, the twelfth seed. “We are all ready for our county game tomorrow, we haven’t had a game in over a week so we can’t wait to play again. We’ve been really working in practice and hoping to show all the bigger schools who we are and that we’re a contender to win the county tournament“ says junior Ashley Driscoll, a second-year varsity player. Despite not playing a game since their loss against Morris Catholic on October 1, the girls won with a single goal from sophomore, Maddie Armondo, and an assist from junior, Laurene Creteau. The team moves on to play West Morris Central this Saturday at 3:00 at Mendham. Come support them!!

While Varsity faced off in their first county game, JV looked to their county tournament as well. Also seeded fifth in the county, the JV team prepared for their game against Morris Knolls (also to be played on the same day). JV, unlike varsity, has been playing many games in preparation for their match, knowing they’re likely to face a difficult opponent. JV currently has a record of 5-1-2, and the freshmen team has a record of 2-1-2, with an impressive win a few days later against Summit. Unfortunately, the girls didn’t prevail, a tough loss of 4-2. The girls started off strong with goals from sophomores Lena Dressler and Alana Flynn, but Knolls came back for the win. It was a good game nonetheless, and the Dodgers look forward to their next game on Monday against Mountain Lakes. The Dodgers still have a bright future ahead and promise to make it far this year!
