Dodgers Dominate Morris Catholic On Senior Night

Senior night in Madison is a night to remember year in and year out. The highly anticipated night is a Madison tradition in every sport. Friday October 21st was the Dodger football senior night and they did not disappoint. Friday night the Dodgers took on Morris Catholic, a revenge seeking game for the Dodgers. After a tough loss to the Crusaders in the year prior, the Dodgers rallied back and came out on top. The Dodgers progressed to a 6-2 record after this huge win. The final score was 54-8, which in itself is an incredible achievement for both sides of the ball for Madison.

Not only was the win on senior night a huge victory, but the performances by the Madison High School senior football players was no doubt a moment that they will always remember. On the offensive side of the ball Jayson “The Candyman” Candelerio finished with 3 touchdowns, leading the Dodgers in this game. Two other big performances on the offensive side of the ball were from Anthony “The Italian Stallion” Contessa and Robert Ferris, each with a touchdown. On Ferris’s touchdown, Senior QB Brayton Boyer spiraled a beautiful throw into the end zone. Boyer also had an outstanding night.

Prior to the game, I took the time to discuss the upcoming night with two of these players, QB Boyer and RB Contessa. Both Contessa and Boyer described the night as something they have looked forward to for as long as they have been playing Madison football, which is over seven years for both. “The night will be electric” said Boyer, and man was he right.
Not only was the offense on point on the chilly Friday night, but so was the defense and special teams. Cade LaFerriere had a night for himself; LeFerriere had a batted down pass, a sack, and four tackles on the night. A recurring standout player, Brayton Boyer is not only a solid Quarterback, but he is also the kicker, one of the best in the section. Boyer hit five through the uprights on senior night.

Senior night was clearly a success for the Dodgers, who both came out on top and secured good momentum going into the postseason. The seniors’ performances in the game was a perfect ending to their regular season. The first playoff game is this Saturday, October 29th, at Ted Monica Stadium at
Madison High School. The Dodgers (3 seed) will be taking on Jefferson (6 seed) whom they have already beaten this year. Students and community members should be in attendance! Tickets available at the gate.
