The Madison Boys Baseball team starts off their 2026 spring season carrying a team of ten seniors, looking to go all the way for their last time on the diamond.
Over their last four years at playing Madison Baseball, some varsity names have stayed consistent like Liam Melvin, James Doehner Chris Vaughan, Luke McGuire, and Peter McGuire, dominating the field since their freshman year. These seniors have helped Madison maintain winning records these past four and increase the skills of the team collectively. Coming into their senior year, they are captained by Liam Melvin, James Doehner, Patrick Layng, and Luke McGuire.
Out of the seniors on this squad, six out of the ten seniors have pitched on the diamond in a varsity game. Being a pitcher in baseball is one of the hardest-if not the hardest-positions to play in baseball. It is a tremendous skill to be a pitcher in baseball considering the different types of pitches there are to throw as well as controlling the field with the outcome of the pitch. Current senior James Doehner controlled the mound last year, accumulating 917 pitches and 58 strikeouts to add to a whopping 126 total. James is committed to Gettysburg College to play division three baseball.
To consider the offensive portion, these seniors can hit the ball. According to 7eightsports, senior Chris Vaughan leads the 78 corridor division in RBIs with 37 RBIs and 7 home runs from this past season. Chris plans to attend Lafayette College to play division one baseball. Most of the senior squad also have batting averages over .300, meaning every three times out of ten that they go up to bat, they get a hit. Last year, the team had a combined batting average of .329, which is considered exceptionally rare compared to professional baseball batting averages.
This season is looking promising for Madison Baseball with their first games this upcoming week against Pequannock and Morris Knolls. After spending the last three years racking up stats for the Dodgers, the seniors running the show on the diamond hope to bring home some much needed hardware and titles for Madison.
