Players become free agents after the World Series ends. This means their contracts expire, and they have the ability to accept or decline other contracts. Some of the best players are free agents this year, which means they are on the market.
Many valuable players are becoming free agents, which will affect teams in the near future. Some of these players include J.T. Realmuto who is the All-Star catcher for the Philadelphia Phillies, Edwin Diaz the closing pitcher for the New York Mets, and Trent Grisham a center fielder for the New York Yankees. Each of these players’ contracts on their now prior teams are large pools of money. Although, some of them are looking for more or less cash in their future. For example, Edwin Diaz’s last contract was $102 million dollars, but he is now asking for only $100 million dollars. On the other hand, Trent Grisham joined his last team, signing for $5 million dollars, but looking at $130 million dollars in his future contract.
Lots of fans are also worried about the future of these teams without these players. The Phillies are the reigning champions of the NL East Division, winning two years back to back. Although, without J.T. Relmuto, they may not have a chance in the future. Mets fans are wishing that Diaz will stay with them, but with him ending his contract with the team so early, chances are extremely low. With Trent Grisham, the Yankees are doing everything they can to keep him on the team. They even offered him a returning contract, but as of now, it looks like he will decline it.
