The Dodgers are starting the ‘23 season off on the right foot. The Madison girls’ soccer team defeated Mountain Lakes 7-2 in their opening game, with goals from Ellison Errington (senior), Ashley Driscoll (senior), Gabby Mariani (junior), and Anna Gominiak (freshman). With ten wins already in the books, the team has a promising season ahead. This year’s senior class looks especially strong. Errington already has ten season goals, and Riley Holland recently saved her 200th career goal.
Junior Leah Fass says, “I’m very proud of our season so far. Our record really reflects the commitment and dedication from each player and I don’t see that stopping anytime soon.” Fass has 2 season goals and 4 assists so far. This is her second year on varsity. With so many seniors playing vital roles on the team, she predicts that next season “will be a transitional year.”
Fortunately, the underclassmen are impressive, with two freshmen joining the team this year. Antonia Waddington already has 19 saves as goalie and Camryn Visich scored against Parsippany Hills on 10/03. Both girls have sisters on the team- senior Maria Waddington and junior Avery Visich- and are following in their footsteps as strong players.
The team is undefeated in their conference and has beat both Mountain Lakes and Parsippany Hills twice. Senior Day took place in a victorious 1-0 game against Mount Olive. The team celebrated Mia McSherry, Ellison Errington, Laurene Creteau, Addison Holland, Alexis Gominiak, Ashley Driscoll, Katherine Finnegan, Kelsey Greer, Maria Waddington, Avery Hines, and Riley Holland. After already defeating them 2-0, they will play against Hanover Park again on 10/16. Congratulations on a great season so far Madison!
