The Madison Swim Team competed in a dual meet against Parsippany Hills High School on December 8th at the Madison Area YMCA. Opening up their seasons with two losses each by a large margin, both the boys’ and girls’ teams saw major improvements in this meet.

The Dodger boys lost a very close match with a score of 84-86, but produced many stellar swims.

The highlight of their meet was that senior Justin Lee, senior Artha Abeysinghe, freshman Jacques Chemaly, and junior Owen Weller broke a school record in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a combined time of 3:28.56. This record came after the same group broke the school record for the meters variation of the relay the day before against Morristown. The previous record was set during the 2018-2019 season by Michael Lee, Justin Lee, Morgan Bruhn, and Zachary Ruiz with a time of 3:28.83.

Additional boys’ victories included Chemaly in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.59), Lee in the 50-yard freestyle (23.62) and 100-yard butterfly (56.18), and Abeysinghe in the 500-yard freestyle (5:46.76).

The girls’ team, meanwhile, won their first meet with an impressive 92-78 score. Individual event winners included Karen Wu in the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.65) and 100-yard freestyle (55.58), and Lily Barisonek in both the 200-yard individual medley (2:23.20) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.96). In the girls’ 400-yard freestyle relay of Wu, freshman Emily Brown, sophomore Erin Barisonek, and Lily Barisonek, Madison also emerged victorious with a time of 4:04.15

The boys and girls teams swim their next meet against Delbarton and Villa Walsh respectively on December 15th.
