Cinnamon Rolls are definitely the favorite dessert of many, but we wanted to figure out who made the best. To test this out, we tried cinnamon rolls from Sunday Motor Co, Woodland Bakery, and Bakehouse in Madison. Each roll had its own uniqueness, but first let’s get into the places we went to.
Sunday Motor Co. opened its doors in 2019 in Madison with the goal of becoming a solution to the age-old “cars & coffee” event while staying in style. During the week it is a calm, but busy cafe to get a drink or a bite to eat with the family or friends. On the weekend, the cafe transforms into a great car show where car lovers bring their cars to show for display. Often you can see the line out the door as the reviews for Sunday Motor talk about their tasty menu and aesthetic ambiance inside and outside.
Next, we headed to Woodland Bakery which actually sits right outside Madison in Chatham, inside of the Green Village Mall. Jose Molina, the owner of Woodland Bakery, took over in July 2019 and reopened the bakery in August 2019. Jose has been in the bakery industry for over 15 years now. They specialize in pastries, cakes, pies and tarts.
For our last stop we tried out Bakehouse, which is owned by Joe Murphy. Joe Murphy is Top 10 Pastry Chefs in the country and was recognized with 4 stars in The New York Times and 3 Michelin Stars. The bakehouse has two locations: New Providence and Madison. They sell all kinds of pastries, including cinnamon rolls, and are known for their signature cakes. It was established in 2022.
Each of these places gave us similar but slightly different versions of their cinnamon role. For size, Woodland Bakery definitely stole the show as it was huge for $4, but the taste did not match the appearance. Sunday Motor’s roll was more of a croissant and less of a traditional cinnamon roll and was disappointing. The real winner was no surprise as Bakehouse’s cinnamon roll was fluffy, warmed up, and came with frosting on top. It cost only $4.83 compared to Sunday Motor as theirs was $7. Talk about over priced. The size was average and was just what we were looking for.
If you are looking for the best cinnamon roll in Madison, Bakehouse is definitely the place to go!
