Summer is just around the corner, meaning it’s time to put away the soups and focus on sandwiches! A sandwich we chose to focus on for this review was a classic bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwich, or more commonly known as a BLT. There are multiple locations in Madison that serve BLTs but we narrowed it down to a total of three locations, Green Village Deli, Main Street Subs, and Nautilus Diner. In our reviews, we are considering the time it takes to get it, the price, and the overall taste of the sandwich. Let’s dive into what we established about these sandwiches and their shops.
Our first sandwich was from Green Village Deli in Harding, a classic staple for Harding residents that offers plentiful sandwiches that have been highly regarded. The total cost came out to around 8 dollars after a four minute wait for the sandwich at a busy lunch counter. The overall taste was considered excellent with the juicy tomatoes and the crispy lettuce and bacon all between two pieces of toasted white bread. We were overall pleased to know that Green Village Deli had more to offer than their famous “chinese chicken salad”. We gave Green Village Deli’s sandwich a 4.5/5 rating.
The next BLT was from Main Street Subs located outside of downtown Madison. Main Street Subs has been around for over 40 years, allowing for returners to keep enjoying their classic favorites like the Italian sub and many more. The sandwich total came out to around 9.57 dollars after a five minute wait with an overall underwhelming taste with normal ingredients but an extraneous amount of lettuce compared to other toppings. We gave Main Street Subs’ sandwich a 3.5/5 rating.
The final sandwich comes from Nautilus Diner located in the downtown Madison area. Nautilus has been a staple diner for decades in Madison, offering multiple different options with breakfast, lunch, and dinner for everyone. We came in around 3 and were seated quickly amongst some older folks enjoying a late lunch. The total cost of the sandwich came out to 9.47 dollars after a six minute wait. The overall taste was considered exceptional with extra crispy bacon as well as fresh veggies and quick service for being a diner rather than a shop. We gave Nautilus Diner’s BLT a 4.7/5 rating.
After reviewing each sandwich, we agreed that Nautilus Diner’s BLT with a 4.7/5 rating was the superior sandwich and establishment. The BLT checked all the boxes on what we were looking for with a perfect ratio of fresh vegetables, crispy bacon, and soft bread. Nautilus Diner also provided the most ample setting with many food options accompanied with seating. Even though Nautilus had a more pricey sandwich along with a bit of a longer wait time, the taste proved it was worth the wait and accompanied with french fries or chips, it makes the perfect summer combo. Take it from us, Nautilus Diner serves one of the top tier BLTs in the Madison area.
