New TikTok trends are created every day, but this one seems to be the most influential amongst teens right now. Quarterzips, matcha, and wired earbuds have been popping up all around schools and social media. Some say it’s just a niche trend, but it seems to have spread widely across many social media platforms.
The first trend to start was the rise of matcha. Matcha is an earthy tasting drink made with ground matcha leaves and milk. Without sweetener matcha is not the most appealing drink to teens and kids. Popular places like Blank Street and Joe and the Juice have become extremely popular over the last few months because of their matcha. The idea is that if you can drink matcha and like the taste of it you are “unique”, but many say it is performative as the taste is not very appealing to many.
Shortly after matcha made its preview, wired earbuds started to have a comeback. With the release of airpods in 2016 many people have switched because of how convenient it is to have wireless headphones. Airpods are used all the time in school by students to listen to music and watch videos, but many teachers are not fond of airpod use in class. Some teachers even have rules stating that only wired headphones are allowed. Wired headphones have started to reappear more and more in schools by students and are referred to as “niche”.
The most popular trend by far has been quarter zip sweaters and sweatshirts. Many guys started to wear quarter zips because they are “nicer” than just wearing a plain hoody or crewneck. Though many people have been wearing quarter zips for years, they have definitely influenced male fashion more as of recently, and tiktok is to thank for that. Before quarterzips, nike techs were “the sweatshirt” that every teenage boy wanted to get their hands on. Now Nike techs have been dismissed as cringe and not in style anymore. Many would say quarter zips are a way to elevate their style.
It’s looking like some of these trends will be around for a while as they are actually beneficial to teens. Studies have started to show wired earbuds are better for people because airpods expose you to more radiation. Quarterzips also do nicely elevate teens’ style and create a “classic look”.
