Powderpuff Football: Juniors v. Seniors

Just when we thought the Dodgers’ football team was done for the season, Madison High School introduced their own spin off: a game for the girls. In a heated game of flag football, the Juniors dressed in pink and Seniors doused in black were pitted against each other, coached by Madison’s very own football players. This event was not only for staff and students, but, in collaboration with Key Club and Class Council, was made into a food drive, with proceeds going to Students Change Hunger. To spectate, students and parents had the option to either pay $10 upfront or pay with a can of food and $5.

The game consisted of two halves, each lasting roughly thirty minutes.  In a fierce battle on the field, the seniors ended up taking home the win with a final score of 20-14. The touchdowns of the game are credited to senior Rileigh Bagget and junior Laurene Createu during the first half, and, during the second half, to senior Alex Reigle and junior Katherine Finnegan for their respective teams. Have they done this before? They have, if you count the two Powederpuff practices preceding the game.

Although it speaks for itself, it’s clear the event was a success, which wouldn’t be possible without Class Council and Key Club members, the staff helping out with the event, and the students themselves. Even on a Wednesday night with temperatures reaching sub-40 degrees, spirits were high. Many people came to the Madison Recreational Center to both watch the game unfold and support the ongoing food drive. I think I can speak for all of us when I say we hope to see the return of the Powderpuff football game in future years!
