20 min into the Mountain Lakes, Madison JV soccer game, an aggressive slide tackle from behind by number 41 on Mountain Lakes causes Nathan Guarin to go down. Nathan thought it was fine at first, but the risk remained still.  He could feel something was off but it didn’t bother him enough to step off the field. A minute later a second collision arrived and intensified the pain. This made the collarbone injury much more serious. He signaled the coach for a sub, but before he left the field on one last run, a soaring throw gave him an opportunity to score and he did.  That goal ultimately became the deciding factor of the game! Most people wouldn’t be able to do that without a broken bone and Nathan showcased his toughness, determination, and grit against Mountain Lakes. “This was the highlight of the last few months,” says Nathan. 

Nathan was born and raised in New Jersey although his parents were both born in the Paris region in France, then in the late 90s they moved into New York and then to New Jersey were they are currently living in as a family today.

I was privileged to interview Nathan in class. Here’s a little bit of what he has to say about himself:

AC: If you could have any superpower what would it be?

Nathan: “I’m a huge fan of the flash comic book series so, I’d have to go with super speed.

AC: Why do you hate Pride and Prejudice?

Nathan: I hate it! I hate everything about it. I hate the writing style, there’s too many characters and they don’t do much. It feels like such a cloudy book to read there’s so much information coming at you but nothing at the same time. I just don’t like anything about the book there are no redeeming qualities- it’s so long to read!

AC: If you could live anywhere, here or France, or anywhere you choose in the world, where would it be

Nathan: I’d probably have to go with Denmark it’s really nice there the weather is bad but, they have the highest happiness rate of any other country 

AC: What’s your favorite song?

Nathan: Oh wow, um little known fact, I have 20gb of downloaded songs on Spotify so I’d say right now either “vent” by Baby Keem or “cody blu 31” by JID

AC: If you could have any dream car what would it be? I’m a car guy and absolutely love cars and this question creates a lot of conflict for me but I’d have to say either the new Porsche GT3RS the one that came out a few weeks ago or a limited edition Lexus LFA.

AC: What’s your favorite movie/show?

Nathan: For a show I’d have to go with Brooklyn Nine-Nine. I absolutely love that show. I love to binge watch it whenever I’m in France, as well as French Netflix, and for the movie Deadpool I absolutely love that movie.
