Inside the Racket with Maeve Doherty

In tennis, it’s all about having confidence according to Maeve Dohetry, in tennis and in any sport if you have no confidence it’s really hard to succeed. Maeve has been playing tennis since she was 10 years old. So it has been in her blood for a while. She plays all the time in the summer to keep practicing so she can perfect her craft. When she goes to the beach in the summer, she goes to the local tennis club in spring lake, where she plays with her family.

Maeve’s sister and mom both play too, so there is very good competition between the three of them. What I find really cool about tennis is how the players ref their own games. But of course they can cheat and say it was out and it really wasn’t. So of course I had to ask Maeve if she had ever cheated in tennis. Maeve said “No, I have never cheated in a tennis game.” The most important part about being on a team in high school is the teammates that your with. Maeve said, “My favorite thing about tennis is being with my teammates and improving my tennis skills more everyday.”

It’s so important to have a close relationship with all your teammates, you build bonds with them that will never be broken. In all sports you of course have your favorite play of all time but that’s not the case with Maeve, it’s the memories she has shared with her teammates and just loves being part of the team. “It’s hard to say what my favorite memory of tennis is. I think it’s really making more memories everyday with my friends.” It truly shows what kind of teammate and person she is. As a teammate you have to be very unselfish and a leader. Maeve represents all of those qualities.
