Football: Started off with an upsetting loss against Lenape Valley, to start the season, 24-3 who they beat at Metlife last year but came back on Saturday with a 27-20 win over Verona. All eyes are on senior captains Ryan Schmitz, Brian Bradley, Santi Quintero, and Brian Bradley, as well as seniors Paul Links and Trevor Jasen and junior Matty Mulcahy who are expected to be key players this year in bringing Madison back to Metlife.

Field Hockey: Strong start already with a 4-1 record with wins over Bridgewater, Mountain Lakes, Parsippany, and Boonton. After a disappointing loss in the Group I final last year, they are looking for redemption. Key players include Elizabeth Romano and Sage Geyer, senior captains, who have both committed to play field hockey in college at UConn and Amherst.

Girls Soccer: Already with three wins over Boonton, Villa Walsh, and Dover, with an overall 3-1-1 recond, girls are shaping up to have a great season. Senior player Grace Hurley said “we have potential  to do really well this season we work really well together as a team and have a really good dynamic.”

Boys Soccer: Off to a rough start with three losses and only one win over Morristown-Beard, the team is feeling down, but the young team has the whole season left to turn it around. Junior Ryan Selquist says that “some of their starters are coming back from injuries and that will help turn around the season.”

Volleyball: With a 2-2 start, volleyball is having a good start to their season.

Girls Tennis:  Impressive start with wins over Boonton, HP, and Parsippany and only one loss. Captain Katie Kern had some optimistic comments  about the upcoming season, “I think we are going to have a good season. A lot of our matches have been canceled due to weather, but that has given us more time to prepare for them. We also got new courts this year, which is really exciting!”

Cross Country: Great start with three wins and one loss. With the newly redone track to practice on, cross country is well prepared and coming out on top. Jamie Habib had an amazing race coming in third right behind Villa Walsh runner who won the NJSIAA Non-Public B state championship last year.

Every year, each team loses its seniors who led and carried the team in the years before. This year football lost quarterback Mike Kearney, field hockey lost Catherine Crowley, girls soccer lost Ali Waxgeiser who went on to play at Roger Williams University, boys soccer lost Allan Aguirre who went on to play at Drew University, volleyball lost Jennie Scavone, tennis lost Jessica Zhang, and cross country lost Sawyer Tadano who went on to run for Middlebury College. Despite these big losses for each team I am confident that each team will still have great seasons since they’re already off to great starts! Keep it up Dodgers!!
