We’ve Got Spirit; Yes We Do!
Fall Spirit Week is an exciting time that every student looks forward to. Students tend to dress head to toe according to the theme, and the amount of spirit throughout the week increases exponentially as the week goes on. The Student Council is in charge of choosing the themes for the day, designing geotags for Snapchat (special thank you to Ryan Bagley for designing them!!) help with hallway decorating, and planning the Pep Rally. MDO sat down with student council president Owen Matthews to gain some more insight about this year’s spirit week.
MDO: What’s the purpose of Spirit Week?
OM: The purpose of spirit week is to increase excitement for the pep rally Friday, which celebrates all of our fall sports teams! Spirit week this year aligns with the senior game for a lot of the teams. There is also a football game under the lights the night of the pep rally against one of our biggest rivals: Hanover Park! School spirit promotes student bonding and a sense of unity throughout the whole school. It also increases pride for our high school (Go Dodgers!)
MDO: What does the student council do during Spirit Week?
OM: During spirit week the student council will be face painting on Thursday during lunch and Friday before school and during lunch. The student council will also be running a photo station in the lobby every day during lunch where students can get their picture taken with props that have to do with the spirit day. This not only helps students have a physical memory of spirit week but also the student council can go through the photos to choose the winners for the prize each day for the most spirited outfit.
