Recap of the Semi: (Dress Edition)

A group of Junior girls ready for semi.

This past Friday, MHS had its first semi formal dance in 10 years. Around 200 tickets were sold and although students from all classes were in attendance, the dance was mostly sophomores and juniors. I personally was not in attendance and I took the theme of “a night in NYC” literally and spent the night in the city with my friends.

For a cold winter night, every girl in attendance still seemed to be wearing sleeveless or short sleeved dresses, proving that the cold weather really did not stop anyone from having fun. The little black dress is a staple in every MHS girl’s closet and LBDs of all shapes and sizes were worn for the night in NYC. Many girls wore their body con LBDs with a statement necklace and looked great. The look is effortless and perfect for a semiformal dance, and a night in NYC. LBDs are personally my favorite for events like this because they are so easy to wear and to look good in. As for the guys, they really couldn’t go wrong with a simple suit and maybe a tie that matched their date if they were feeling creative.

Semi formal dances are a great way to have fun with your peers without the stress of everything that goes along with a formal dance (ie prom). The less formal the dance, the less stress there seems to be, especially when it comes to planning what to wear.
