A Night in the City

The moment we have all been waiting for has finally arrived. MHS is having a semi winter formal for the first time in 10 years on January 15th. When each student got the facebook notification on their phone with the first announcement of the semi, everyone was shocked. After years of hearing rumors that we were going to have a dance held at our school, it was hard to believe that it was actually happening. A lot of people were also very surprised seeing that it was a Sadie Hawkins dance which means girls ask the guys to be their dates instead of the traditional way it’s usually done. This left many girls panicking about who they were going to bring to the semi and how they were going to ask them which has essentially turned into the nightmare that is prom. Not to mention the fact that girls are also stressing about what they are going to wear and how fancy this dance is really going to be.

While some students are very excited for this semi themed “A Night in the City”, a lot of other people think otherwise. Some people have been saying that the stress for this dance is too much and just not worth it. Others say that since the school has made it open to all grades, it makes the event a lot less classy and a lot more chaotic. The juniors and especially seniors feel that the underclassmen should wait until it’s their turn to attend the dance which the administration did not agree with. According to one of the seniors at MHS, “opening the semi to everyone makes the event just like a middle school dance”. Another student claimed that “It’s the the student council and administration trying to make up for the fact that we don’t have anything other than prom, unlike other schools that have formals and homecoming”. Overall, the dance is a very exciting idea and hopefully this will encourage the school to let us hold more dances like this in the future. The question is will MHS be able to pull it off?
