Rivalries have been around for a very long time: Brutus and Caesar, Montague and Capulet, Russia and America, and Madison and Hanover Park (HP). On Friday, November 6th, Madison and HP faced off at Parsippany High School because HP’s fields were under construction. The Dodgers defeated the undefeated HP team with a final score of 35-13. Madison Dodger Online (MDO) got to ask Dodger quarterback, Nick Coviello (NC), some questions.

MDO: What is it like to beat your rival?

NC: It’s a great feeling to beat a rival, especially HP. Knowing that they were undefeated and picked to win against us was more than enough motivation to give them everything we had.

MDO: Going in, were you expecting to win by so much?

NC: Going into the game HP was projected to blow us out. The score was actually supposed to be flipped. Our team doesn’t usually read articles or projections but since it was a big rivalry game and the game that decided the conference championship, everyone seemed to be interested in the media.

MDO: How do you think this win will affect the rest of the season?

NC: It’s a big step for us. It’s huge momentum and we hope to carry it into the playoffs. It gives our team a lot of confidence in our abilities and hopefully we can continue to roll through the playoffs.

MDO:How did Coach Kubik get the team pumped up?

NC: Kubik hyped his game up more than any previous game and it was obvious why. This game decided the fate of the conference champs, it was a chance to show that we were better than our rivals, it was their senior night, and it was another chance for us to line up and play against a good football team.
