Chris Mintz recovering from the shooting

When gun fire began at an Oregon community college this month, most of the students fled the buildings, trying to get to safety.  But army veteran Chris Mintz ran from one building to the next warning students and teachers about the impending danger of the shooter on campus.  Chris Mintz was lucky enough to leave the school alive that day, but received 5 bullet wounds. 9 of Chris Mintz’s fellow classmates died on that fateful day at Umpqua Community College on October 1.

Chris Mintz was in his writing class when he and his fellow classmates heard commotion the the room adjoining their classroom.  His teacher walked up to the door that connected the two rooms to see if there was something wrong.  This was immediately followed by the loud popping of gunshots and many of Chris’s classmates fled the building as fast as they could.  Mintz held the door for everyone as they ran out, not leaving them until every person was out safely.

Mintz moved across campus towards the gunfire to continue helping other people on campus, putting himself at even more risk.  As Mintz was trying to move people away from the building where the shooter was, the shooter came out and open fired on Mintz, hitting him 5 times throughout his body, but luckily hitting no major arteries.  As the gunman was shooting Mintz he yelled, “This is for calling the cops”.

Chris Mintz went out of his way to direct people off of the campus, even though he put himself in direct danger and ended up getting very badly wounded.  Chris Mintz is the true hero of the Oregon shooting.
