Fun fall colors

As the seasons change, so should your nail color. Each season tends to have its own respective color pallet, which is largely influenced by the weather and also the popular color trends that year. Nails can be painted with an accent color to tie the outfit together, or a statement color which is focal point of an outfit. Recently, nail art has evolved from your classic flower to true, complex, works of art. However, the color in which the nail is painted always stays true to the respective season. Fall doesn’t mean that you have to go find the tackiest shade of orange, yellow, and white and paint your nails like candy corn. There are alternative colors and designs that scream “fall” almost as much as a pumpkin spice latte does.

I sat down with senior Elyse Harris, who runs the Instagram account swiftpolish, to discuss we favorite nail colors for fall.

MDO: What are your top 5 favorite nail colors for fall?

EH: “Big Spender”, “No More Film”, “Jamaica Me Crazy”, “Sand Tropez”, “Good As Gold” -all Essie, and “Boudoir” -Ciaté.
MDO:Are there any designs that you save specifically for fall?

EH: I save designs with leaves, pumpkins, or Halloween and Thanksgiving designs for fall. I also like to use reds, purples, nudes, browns, and golds in my designs.

MDO:Do you buy new nail polish bottles when the seasons change?

EH: Sometimes I buy new nail polish when the seasons change, but because I usually use a lot of different colors for the designs I paint, I end up having a wide range of colors that go with the different seasons.

MDO:Also what’s one fall color that you recommend everyone try?

EH: Two fall colors I recommend everyone try are Essie’s “Big Spender” and “Sand Tropez.” “Big Spender” is a red-violet, creme Polish that isn’t bright like a color you would wear during the summer, but also isn’t dark like something you would wear in the winter. “Sand Tropez” is a nude creme and is subtle. Nude polishes have become really popular recently, especially for fall
