Connor Riley and Noah Buzinkai round the corner of their 2 mile.

This past weekend the New Jersey Group Two Sectional Spring Track Meet took place at Bernards High School. The purpose of this meet was to determine which runners would qualify for the Groups State Championship Track Meet next Friday and Saturday. To qualify for Groups a track runner has to score in the top six in a given event. The Madison girl’s team placed fourth overall and the boy’s team placed ninth.

For the girl’s team there were many individual qualifiers in varying events. Rose Ciriello placed fifth in the 400 meter hurtles, fourth in the 400 meter dash, fifth in high jump, and was the sectional champion of the 800 meter run. Helene Rowland placed second in shot put, second in javelin, and third in discus. Cara Smith placed fourth in the mile closely followed by Meghan Timmons who placed sixth. Finally, the girl’s 4×800 meter relay placed fourth. The team consisted of Meghan Timmons, Libby Johnson, Lauren Dattilo, and Cara Smith.

For the boy’s team, Connor Riley placed second in the two mile and sixth in the mile. William Hendrickson placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles and fifth in the 800 meter run. Noah Buzinkai placed sixth in the two mile. Lastly, the boy’s 4×800 placed second in eight minutes and twelve seconds, which is the new school record.

Next for the Madison track team is the Group State Championship, hopefully the Madison Dodgers will have as great as a performance moving on in the competition.
