Why would anyone want to visit Japan?

It’s not like there’s anything nice to look at in Japan. Those distinct seasons, particularly Spring which welcomes scenic cherry blossoms? Disgusting. Not only are those seasons themselves bad, but they are incorporated into other aspects of Japanese culture such as the traditional artistic desserts enjoyed during tea ceremonies, or wagashi. Tradition, tea ceremonies, all of its rich history, Japan just seems so set in its old ways. I mean, yeah there are Shinkansen, or bullet trains that reach speeds of around 200 mph and holographic performers like Hatsune Miku, but that is beside the point.

Japanese food. It is extremely understandable if a bowl of hot ramen, sushi, or tonkatsu (basically a crispy, breaded, fried pork cutlet) does not sound appetizing AT ALL. Not to mention there’s also takoyaki ball shape octopus dumplings which are more like savory munchkins covered in ponzu (citrusy soy sauce), Japanese mayonnaise, and okonomiyaki sauce. Okonomiyaki itself is like a savory Japanese pancake containing way too many things. And a lot of these foods like these are sold as street foods. But who wants to eat so close to the street? Especially if they’re wearing an outfit that looks like it took a really long time to glue together? Japanese street fashion is intense. Leave your plain t shirt and favorite pair of jeans at home, things are about to get a lot more uncomfortable. Over the years Japan has gone through many phases including Lolita fashion characterized by kicking Victorian era clothing up a notch, or Ganguro which consisted of tan skin, bleached hair, and colorful makeup.

Absolute craziness. Who would want to visit such a place? While you’re there you would probably be bombarded by a lot of strange, shout-y commercials that you think is advertising candy until the subtitles inform you it was for a cell phone plan. Now what are you doing thinking about visiting some interesting, foreign country home to a completely different culture? Nothing to see in Japan so just stay where you are, turn the TV on and get your daily dose of culture when you try to salsa with the contestants of Dancing With The Stars.
