Halloween came a little early to MHS this past Wednesday when the Girls’ Soccer Team displayed their team pride with a great spirit day. “Animal Day”, or the Lady Dodger Zoo, encouraged the girls to dress up as any animal they wanted. The intent of Spirit Days, which is to notify the student body about game days, was definitely accomplished with the eye-catching array of animals portrayed by the girls. From cats and dogs to cows and turtles, the Animal Kingdom invaded MHS with spirit and style.
Some particularly striking outfits were those of Libby Johnson, who dressed in a furry dog costume, head-dress and all, Grace Nittolo in her cow footie pajamas, and Mika Leshem in a morph suit and turtle backpack.
The girls’ sports teams have in general revamped the themes of Spirit Days this year, with fewer Cowboys vs. Indians days (a standard favorite) to neon inter-grade color wars and the absolutely hysterical Nerd Day. The boys’ teams, however, are keeping it classy with formal dress or uniform Spirit Days, though some may recall one hockey team stunning the Student Body with a rambunctious Guido Day last winter. Let’s hope the teams keep this energy and enthusiasm up and, better yet, infect the rest of the school with the contagious spirit. If Spirit Days were a contest, the Lady Dodger Zoo might just take the cake, or dog treats, whatever works.
