Madison girls basketball have been on the rise these past few years, winning an impressive two section titles in the past three years.
Madison girls basketball has been dominating , winning their conference the past two seasons and the section last year, and looks to continue their success in the 2024-2025 season. They have had a winning record the past three years, with a total of 68 wins and 19 losses. They also have two section titles and two conference titles to their name. The captains this year, Charlotte Tuhy and Gabby Mariani, combined with their fellow seniors, Devon Johnson and Mallory Dineen, and sophomores players, Samantha Nielsen, Siena Notaro, and Caitlin Weller, this team is going to be one to look out for in the regular season and postseason run.
Gabby Mariani has been a starter since freshman year. She has had over 100 assists per year and has broken the school record for most assists in a career. She has also averaged over 100 steals per year. She is a key factor in the team’s success, is a great leader on and off the court, and plays a big role in dictating the offense.
Charlotte Tuhy is committed to American University (AU) to play basketball. Charlotte has a total of 1,685 points in her career, which is more than any man in Madison history. She averaged 25 points and 12 rebounds per game last season, and was the leader in the NJAC conference for points both sophomore and junior year. She was All-County and All-Conference three years in a row, and was second team All-State her sophomore and junior season. She is 97 points away from becoming the all time leading scorer in Madison history. She led her team to win two state sectional titles in the past three years, and will no doubt be a strong presence on the court this season.
Devon Johnson was also a key player in the team’s success last year. She is a great defensive player who will lock down one of their opponent’s best players. She is a great rebounder. She is a player that has a big leadership role on the court and will help keep the team together. She averaged ten rebounds per game last year and looks to play an even bigger role this season.
Mallory Dineen is a player that adds a strong and competitive aspect to their team. She is a great player on defense and will guard their center and will be a strong presence on the block. She helps bring balance to their team. Her strength will pose a threat offensively and defensively for opposing teams.
With losing a few key seniors from last year’s squad, they will need some younger players to step up. Some players to look out for this year are Samantha Nielsen, Siena Notaro, and Caitlin Weller, who are looking to play key roles and add depth to this team. Some games to look forward to are the Hanover Park conference games and Chatham Christmas tournament. The girls are particularly excited for these two rivalry matchups. They have some big games in this upcoming season, and are very excited to get this season rolling. They tip-off on December 17th against Morristwon Beard at home at 4 pm.
