Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia is suing the NCAA over eligibility rules. The Vanderbilt quarterback was upset that he was not granted two more years of eligibility after playing at a JUCO for two years and then at New Mexico State for two years.
Pavia is fighting for JUCO players to be granted more eligibility. He also believes that JUCO players face restrictions that are not enforced on athletes who delay their entry to division 1 NCAA programs by taking prep years and serving in the military.
The NCAA rule is that athletes who attend a JUCO program can only be granted two years of division 1 eligibility, not the 4 years that are available to all other division 1 football players. The argument that the NCAA makes is that granting JUCO players 4 years of D1 eligibility doesn’t promote competition and says it could harm division 1 football.
Pavia ended up getting denied an extra year of eligibility, The Judge wasn’t buying what Pavia had to say because he assumed he knew the rules about his eligibility for a while. Pavia is definitely disappointed because he knows another year at Vanderbilt would be about a Million dollars in NIL.
