On March 7, March 8, and March 9, there were 4 amazing Mama Mia performances at Madison High School after months of rehearsing as a team. Mama Mia leads were, senior Ava Vazquez who played Sophie, senior Isa Rojas who played Donna, senior Mia Longnecker who played Tanya, senior Sophia Modi who played Rosie, senior William Marinovic who played Sam, senior Lukas Kolega who played Bill, and Dylan Murray who played Harry. Other supporting roles of Mamma Mia did an amazing job at keeping this play alive and real as we were taken into the love and drama of this European summer wedding. Within the set of the play, professionals assisted in building the abroad set, the team also orchestrated a Greek Market with greek foods and snacks for the audience to have during the intermission. The costume design consisted of bright and floral dresses for the girls and laid-back attire for the boys that screamed summer. The stage crew, lighting crew, orchestra, and sound techs facilitated this amazing production of the play as well.
Thanks to the producer Mr. Oswin, the director Mr. Spence and the choreographer Ms. Radcliff, this “musical extravaganza had us dancing in the aisles.” Following the musical’s success, Madison High School Theatre commented on Facebook that “One of the fun things about Mamma Mia is that just when you think it is over, it presents you with the encore of a lifetime. We may be saying goodbye to so many seniors this year, and while we are sad to see them go, the applause isn’t over yet. We will cheer you on until the very end. You will always be a part of our family and our story. So aim for 110%, give yourself grace and dignity, keep going no matter what happens, dance and sing when you need to smile, and always step into your light.” (MHS Theatre).
Hopefully for many of these seniors, they choose to pursue theater or some type of performing art in their future college and career lives. Thanks to the past 63 years of Madison Dramatic Dodgers which began in 1961, these students are inspired to show their talent on the stage.
