After finishing a streaky 2022-2023 season and countless weeks of preseason training, the Girls Varsity Tennis team is back this fall with their second year coach, Anton Carrera. With the increase in players in the program, both the varsity and junior varsity team, lead by Coach Diamante, are in line for a good season.
As the season has just begun, the girls tennis team has played Vorhees, Governor Livingston, Parsippany, Hanover Park, and Randolph, with a 1-4 record so far. Although the team is off to a slow start, their losses come from four very strong teams including top seeding Randolph.
In their win against Parsippany, captains Kaden Peterson and Carly Macrina were victorious in their 1st and 3rd singles matches respectively. Peterson says Coach Carrera “has tried bringing the team together,” by “doing all different kinds of workouts to get on the same page and learn to work together.” Macrina mentioned that “the seniors last year were a crucial part of the team dynamic” but having fourteen seniors on the team this year is “helping keep the same dynamic this year which is really crucial.”
The Dodgers look to surge forward and go on a win streak as they face Kinnelon, Mountain Lakes, Villa Walsh, and Parsippany in their upcoming stretch of matches. Second year head coach, Coach Carrera, and JV coach, Coach Diamante continue developing this program and are excited for the new season. As Senior Captain Carly Macrina says “have fun and not stress the small stuff.” The Dodgers plan to carry this mindset through the entirety of the season and get some wins along the way!
