“It has definitely made me a better player. It helps me to push myself to go harder in both high school and college.”Ally Brosie, forward and captain for the Madison High School Field Hockey team, will continue both her academic and athletic career at Dartmouth next fall. Every player is faced with pressure to perform , however for Ally, this pressure is enhanced by the expectations that come with committing to a Division One school.
As a junior, Ally led the team in both goals and assists, solidifying herself as the team’s main playmaker. This season she is expected to be no different, and with that can come some pressure. When asked about this pressure, Ally told reporters, “There is definitely pressure, but I am confident in myself to perform up to expectations if not above them.” Ally’s poise and confidence will most definitely serve to benefit the team, and hopefully to the final goal of a state championship.
There is a new coach for the team this season, which could raise some uncertainty. However, it could additionally serve as an opportunity for Ally to learn some lessons about being under a new coach. When asked about how being under a new coach could help prepare her for her time at Dartmouth, she said, “I’ve played for numerous head coaches throughout my time here, and that has definitely helped me learn to adjust to different styles of coaching”. No matter how the season goes, Ally will be looking to extract valuable lessons and methods that she can use for her future at Dartmouth.
Overall, Ally’s expectations for this season are very high. She hopes to go far in the playoffs, as the loss in last year’s semi-final round to West Essex still stings. As for individual goals, Ally hopes to score more goals than she did last year (16) and hopes to “work on controlling the offense and make sure the team dynamic is the best it can be”. Taking on the captain role should allow her to take the team under her wing and lead them to success.
