The 2018 holidays were exciting and memorable for many around the world. Interestingly, there are a few differences between the end of the year holidays in the United States and in Brazil.

Firstly, Christmas is celebrated in a unique way in Brazil. For example, in Brazil, children receive their presents the night of the 24th. However, in the United States, children receive their presents in the morning of the 25th. As a result, in Brazil, families gather together to celebrate Christmas both the 24th and the 25th. On the other side, in the United States, instead of celebrating on the 24th, families build up the excitement for the 25th, which is a day full of giving to others.

New years eve is also celebrated a little different in Brazil in comparison to the United States. For example, in Brazil, most families decide to go to the shore – since it is Summer – in order to spend time with their loved ones. Furthermore, the night before new years, families decide to wear all white, as it is a symbol of peace for the following year. Not only that but after an incredible meal with others, many families decide to go to the beach and light up candles, which represent the positive wishes for a great year. After lighting the candles, many stay on the beach in order to watch the fireworks at midnight. However, in the United States, this is celebrated in a different way. For example, many friends spend time together during new years eve and celebrate another successful year. Some people even go to New York City in order to watch the ball drop at midnight and celebrate the new years with family or friends.

It is clearly seen that the end of the year holidays are celebrated differently in the United States than in Brazil. This is mostly of a result of the cultural differences between the two countries. However, even though these holidays are different, in both countries people were celebrating for a great 2019, with many positive things to come.
