Madison High School Weight Lifting Program
More stories from Nick Taylor
Weight training is an imperative aspect of all sports. No matter the sport, weight training can give a player or team a size, strength, and speed advantage over their opponents. It also assists in injury prevention so athletes can be healthy throughout the season. It can be seen that the teams that are constantly successful have good training programs. In addition to helping with on field success, working out routinely creates long term benefits for an individual’s overall health.
Over the past year the Madison High School weight lifting program has expanded dramatically. In previous years the weight room was only used by a select number of teams, but now there are so many teams that overcrowding has become a problem. However, having this problem of too many people wanting to work out is a good problem to have. The teams involved in the after school weight lifting program include football, baseball, boys and girls lacrosse, track, softball, and students trying to be fit. Each team has a personalized workout that is structured by the schools trainer and then supervised by her and other coaches.
As a result of the weight room not being able to hold the demand of students, a schedule has been created as a way to minimize the number of people in the weight room at one time and maximize the efficiency of the workout. Each team is given a certain time slot on certain days of the week to be in the weight room. They have this time to complete what they need to in the weight room before the next team arrives. This method allows for the weight room to not be crammed and allow for each team to have an efficient work out without having to be there for an excessive amount of time. This program also improves safety because if there are too many people in the weight room at one time then it becomes a hazard where there is not enough space to work out and the weight room supervisor cannot see everyone clearly. It is important that the supervisor can see everyone that way they can critique someone’s form, thus preventing injury.
All in all, this expansion of the after school weight lifting program is great development for Madison High School athletics and should hopefully result in more successful seasons for each team.

The point that their is one problem and it is that the weight room gets crowded from all different sports was a good point that it is a good problem and showing that people care about their body and their fitness.
