Madison High School Fashion Trends: The Tutu

This past Saturday, I went to the football game against Lenape Valley. The theme for the game was “Dodger delirious.” There really is no instruction or agreed upon definition of this theme. However, Webster’s Dictionary defines delirious as: “In a state of wild excitement or ecstasy.” Somehow, this seemed to translate to: “Every girl wear a tutu.” Don’t get me wrong, I love a good tutu, even I wore one to the game, however, there is a huge gap between “delirious” and “tutu.” How every girl came to the conclusion to wear a tutu to the football game is beyond me. “It was like every MHS girl texted in a group chat: lets all wear tutus to the game on Saturday” said senior, Jeff Young. There were so many girls at the football game wearing a tutu, it was almost strange when a girl wasn’t wearing one.

Not only has the tutu trend at Madison High School managed to keep the local Party City in business, but has become a huge part of spirit days, football games, and pep rallies. However, if anyone was to wear a tutu to a normal day of school, they would probably end up calling their parents for a change of clothes. The idea that something as juvenile as a tutu has managed to be a staple item in every high school girl’s closet is baffling. It is very clear that tutus aren’t only meant for a child’s dance class. MHS has managed to prove that a tutu really can be worn by a “delirious” teenager.
