Girls Ice Hockey

As a new program, only four years old, the Madison High School Girls Ice Hockey team looks to continue building. This year’s squad features lots of depth ranging from all four grades. Led by Coach Bailey and senior captains, Shayne Carfano and Asha Sinha, the expectations for this group are high.

While talking with Coach Bailey, he mentioned that they have many newcomers to the sport of hockey and he’s absolutely thrilled with the growth he’s seen from the girls. Coach is ecstatic that they were able to field both Varsity and JV programs, and he really put into perspective just how important that is for the development of a new program like Madison.

The passion on this team truly stands out. You can tell these girls not only believe in themselves, but believe in each other. This group seems to be extremely confident for this season and according to senior captain Shayne Carfano, “This group has what it takes.” One thing that truly stands out is that many of these girls were motivated to join the team by each other. During our interview, senior Jenna Powers mentioned that fellow senior Chloe Niceberg convinced her to pick up the sport of hockey and she’s really glad she did so. Senior Captain Asha Sinha stated “encouraging other girls to play especially because this is a relatively new program means a lot to me”. That goes a long way and these underclassmen will definitely take away a lot from their senior teammates.

As a team, the leadership definitely stands out. When asked how she plans to lead the underclassmen, Senior Hope Riley mentioned how important it is to be a teacher to her underclassmen and also a friend.

When asked what her goals are this season, Chloe Niceberg mentioned that she hopes to continue improving and getting better everyday while also continuing to build her already strong relationships with her teammates on and off the ice. The bond this team holds as a group will definitely affect the team for the better.

Many of the Girls come from hockey families. Coming from a family of two other dodger hockey alums, Senior Captain Asha Sinha mentioned how watching her brother and sister both play hockey had a very positive effect on her and makes taking a leadership role mean that much more.

This sure is a motivated and supportive group. The team camaraderie is certainly there and that’s a huge part of what it take to be a successful team. Look for the Dodgers to continue improving and get ready for them to make some noise this winter.
