The Madison High School Girls basketball team won their second Group II, Sectional final in the past three years. The Dodgers traveled to Secaucus on 3/1/24 and defeated them 53-42 in an intense game.
Leading the Dodgers in this outing was junior Charlotte Tuhy who had a dominant 28 point performance. Tuhy contributed more than half of the team’s points and added to her performance by securing 16 rebounds and four steals. Tuhy has led her team throughout the whole year and has totaled over 700 points and well over 300 rebounds on the season. Tuhy’s offensive prowess has led the Dodgers to success all season and continued in the finals.
While Tuhy played a large factor, her performance was not the only outstanding one. Senior Beau Braverman totaled 10 points, along with junior Gabby Mariani’s seven points. Mariani also had a great overall performance totaling six rebounds, seven assists and three steals. Junior Devon Johnson was a dominant factor on the boards totaling 10 rebounds, and two blocks.
After securing the state sectional title the Dodgers advanced to the NJSIAA Group 2 Tournament, Semifinal Round, where they defeated Jefferson 38-26. The intense matchup had the Dodgers down two points entering the fourth, but a 15-1 point differential in the 4th allowed the Dodgers to pull away and secure the victory. They are now headed to Rutgers on Saturday March 9th to face off against Manasquan for the Group II State Title. This will mark the first time a Madison Boy or Girls basketball team has reached the group final.
