Girls basketball is back and they are returning three key players from their sectional playoff run from last season. Point and rebound leader Charlotte Tuhy, school assist record holder Gabby Mariani, and starting shooting guard Beau Braverman are returning to the court together along with some new faces from the underclass. When asked who would be filling the roles of the graduated seniors, Gabby Mariani said, “We are looking at juniors like Devon Johnson and Mallory Dineen.”
At the preseason media day, when asked about her imminent 1000 point scoring record, Charlotte Tuhy reassured Dodger Media Online that the team is not focused on individual accolades, but instead consistency and success out of the entire team. This sentiment was echoed by fellow player and captain, Beau Braerman, on media day, when she reiterated that consistency was the top priority for their season.
One of the team’s starters, Katherine Finnegan, actually began her season not on a court, but on the ice. In a separate interview Finnegan explained that after a few Girls Ice Hockey practices, she realized that the sport was not satisfying her. After some thought she reached out to head coach, Ms. DiTuro, and joined the team. After the two first games Katherine says she is “excited about the future of the team, and excited,” about her choice to come back to the team.
In their most recent game against Pequannock, winning 52-39, the team chemistry was highlighted with a statline boasting eleven assists, Gabby Mariani counting towards six of those. Also, Charlotte Tuhy and Beau Braverman combined for over 30 of the team’s points.
