On December 12, the Boys Basketball team at Madison High School discussed their goals for the season and their strategy to achieve wins. Varsity seniors, Jackson Maloney, Marco Roselli, and Tommy Bland, spoke with Dodger Media journalists and the Madison Eagle reporter, David Artuso, on their thoughts. Recently, the team graduated seven senior athletes, so making up for that and having a newer team filled with a lot of underclassmen means the team has some work to do. Past JV athletes filled the roles of graduated seniors. When speaking about their upcoming game against Pequannock, Marco Roselli notes that “there have been a lot of changes on both ends of the game, but we’re always expecting to win, and it’s a tough team, but we know it’s going to be a hard fought battle.” This season, the Boys Basketball team is confident and determined to succeed.
In order to help the underclassmen fill these roles, the team is looking to improve on their chemistry by spending time together on and off the court. One of the current team captains, Jackson Maloney, hopes to “lead the team in the right direction, be a positive role model, and set a good example for the rest of us.” Their main strength out of all aspects in the game was shooting, so the team hopes to leverage that to increase their points this season. Madison Boys Basketball hopes to win counties, potentially make it to states, and have some fun.
When asked about their future plans after high school, many of the team’s seniors were still deciding, stating that it is dependent on what opportunities are available to them. Jackson Maloney told Dodger Media journalists: “I’m looking for a career in college, and potentially basketball at some high D3 schools.” One thing we are sure the future holds, is the kick off of the season on 12/14 against Pequannock.
